I chose this movie to do my research on because I loved the books and I love the movie too,though not as much as the books.
The Ordinary World: In the book and the movie Katniss Everdeen( Jennifer Lawrence) is just an ordinary girl that lives in district 12. She is poor and has always been hungry, after her father dies in a coal mine incident. When her father dies, only Katniss, her mother( Paula Malcomson) and her sister Prim (Willow Shields) are part of her family.
The call to adventure: Every year 1 girl and 1 boy are chosen to go and fight other tributes so that the capitol (rich and wealthy people) can be entertained . Since there are 12 districts, and 1 girl and 1 boy from each district, that means that there are 24 tributes in total, though they have to be in the ages of 12-17. So the escort for district 12 ( Effie Trincket), puts her hand into a box and Prim’s name comes up. She gets very worried, but Katniss volunteers for her. The boy that is chosen as a tribute is Peeta Mellark(Josh Hutcherson). Katniss remembers that Peeta had given her some bread when she was dieing from hunger. That’s how the adventure is born and started.
Mentor: In the book and in the movie there was a mentor for each district (meaning there was 12 mentors in total). The mentor of district 12 is Haymitch (Woody Harrelson). He is a drunk man that won the hunger games a long time ago. He was the only person from district 12 to win the Hunger Games (last one alive). The reason why there are mentors are because they help prepare them for the games, by training, giving them tips and most importantly getting the 2 tributes a lot of sponsors. The sponsors give money to who they like the best, if the tributes have a lot of sponsors they can receive food or valuable items(such as a weapon or medicine to heal wounds.
Tests,allies and enemies: When the hunger games start, it is the choice of that male or female to team up with others, or to be a loner. At first, Katniss is a loner until she finds a friend name Rue, she is a small girl that is from district 11. Some enemies of Katniss are the carrier tributes which are the girls and boys of district 1,2 and 4. The career tributes usually win the Hunger Games, and the career tributes have teamed up together in order to take down the other tributes. In the book and movie, Katniss hears a group of people coming towards her, so she climbs a tree when she sees a little girl. After talking Katniss and Rue decide to team up.
Reward: After Katniss and Peeta win the Hunger Games, they receive a tremendous amount of money, enough to keep them comfortable for the rest of their lives, they also receive prestige and adulation,a house to live in throughout their lives, monthly allowance of food (plenty of food) for the rest of their lives and a victors plaque from all 12 district
